A Little About Kae

Hi, I'm Kae!

Yorkshire Born & Brewed. Cat Mam. Forest Dweller.

I've got an art degree, a concerning amount of enthusiasm, and I've almost joined 2* cults.

I also happen to be the founder of Hedge & Hearth Holistics.

Professional Background

Before creating Hedge & Hearth, I worked extensively in mental health and supported housing services. This background brought together survivor advocacy, education, public engagement and person-centred support. Those roles taught me something that has become fundamental to Hedge & Hearth: supporting someone well isn't about taking control away from them. It means listening. Communicating clearly. Respecting boundaries. Recognising that everybody arrives with different experiences and needs.

And, wherever possible, giving people meaningful choice over what happens next.

Those principles translate naturally into the treatment room. At Hedge & Hearth, consent isn't something that happens once at the beginning of an appointment. You remain in control throughout your treatment, and you're always welcome to ask questions, change your mind, request an adjustment or simply say no.

Much of what I do has grown from both professional and lived experience, particularly my understanding of trauma and the impact it can have on our relationship with ourselves, our bodies and the people around us.

Training & Certification

I am currently completing my VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage (fully qualifying in March 2027) at Bella Marie Training Academy, Seaham, alongside a Level 3 Award in Education and Training. I also hold a Level 4 qualification in Counselling Skills and the aforementioned art degree, which happens to be a first-class BA (Hons), so not too shabby. For my degree dissertation, I explored the relationship between psychological trauma, mental health and creativity, including post-traumatic growth, mindfulness and creative expression.

I have completed training in adult sexual exploitation, grooming, gender-based violence, unconscious bias and FGM. I am continuing to build on this knowledge through further accredited study in trauma-informed practice and therapeutic touch, with other specialist courses planned as my practice develops.

Campaign and Consultancy Work

Alongside Hedge & Hearth, I provide survivor-centred consultancy, education and professional learning to services and academics. I have been involved with North Yorkshire Police’s Operation Crystal, bringing lived experience into front line training on trauma, safeguarding, victim care and institutional practice.

Previous speaking and contributor work includes an audio documentary, radio appearances, and panel discussions.

My current work involves criminal justice services consultancy with a focus on trauma-informed language, victim-survivor engagement, complaints governance and scrutiny of rape and serious sexual offence investigations. I also contribute to multi-agency conversations about media ethics and the responsible production of true-crime content, speaking to professionals about the real-life impact of decisions made by services, organisations and the media. I believe that if something is being designed to support people, the voices of those with lived experience are vital in the shaping of trauma-informed approaches within public services. I'm passionate about transforming lived experience into practical learning and meaningful change.
